Using Creativity to Get the Job Done
What do you do when faced with a problem? How do you solve it? When faced with a problem people respond in different ways, one can go with the easiest solution or take the time to innovate and improve the solution to the problem using creative thinking. Creativity is a useful skill in any industry. Not every problem needs a creative solution, the ones that do can change an industry. With the rise of the internet being able to create new ideas is more important than ever. As some jobs move away from offices innovation is needed to keep everything working as it should, in some ways maybe even better. As Abraham Lincoln once said, "The most reliable way to predict the future is to create it." To excel in future business, we must create a future by innovating in our careers, so the things that come benefit us all.
In the Article “The Importance of Creativity in Business” it explains that creativity is an important tool in any business. It is said that even if jobs that are more creative centered may come to mind, creativity is also useful for coming up with solutions in different fields. Immediately it can help with innovation, productivity, adaptability, and growth making it an in demand skill. The article defines design thinking, a process using creative and concrete ideas to create solutions. During this process you must clarify, ideate, develop, and implement the solution. It goes on further to explain that there are two worlds, an operational world and an innovative one, that should be used equally but also able to grow separately. One should both encourage and learn creativity in your career as explained when concluding the article. (https://online.hbs.edu/blog/post/importance-of-creativity-in-business)
When thinking about creativity one might ask themselves. How do you use creativity to grow in your career when most processes already seem streamlined? What is more important, finding a creative solution or an easy and quick solution to a problem? Are there any areas of work you think might not benefit from constant creative advancement?
Hi Koraleigh! I thought your questions were super thought provoking. I believe that creativity is even more valued, actually, since everything is streamlined. To take that streamlined work and make it different from the competition even using the same process is a truly difficult task and I think that makes it all the more worthwhile. This also leads me to believe that a creative solution will always be better than an easy or quick solution. I personally think of these questions in a marketing standpoint, and in that case it's very important to be separate from your competition. The only area of work I believe creative solutions couldn't benefit is factory work. The machines do it all and you just put things in for them to work with.
ReplyDeleteHey Koraleigh, I love the article you chose! As someone who works in the field of communications, creativity is something I use all the time! Sometimes the most creative solution and the most streamlined solution happen to be the same thing. Those are the BEST solutions! However, I think it's best to always start as creative as you can be, then go back and refine your solution to fit within budget or time constraints. I truly believe there is no line of work that cannot be at least a little improved by some creative thinking.
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome post on the topic of creativity. I think that streamlined solution and creative solutions are intertwined. some the streamlined solutions came from a creative point of view at one point. Streamlined solutions are the type to come up from the technical problems. On the other hand creativity is what keep everything different and is able to make nothing be the same
ReplyDeleteHey Koraleigh, I really appreciate this post. As someone who isn't "traditionally" creative, like most people think of the word, I do have creative abilities that I often overlook because they do not involve some kind of art. I believe that problem solving and adaptation are skills that people do not think of as "creative" skills, but they are some of the most important. Being able to solve a problem multiple different ways is a creative skill that I believe to be one of the most important.
ReplyDeleteHi Koraleigh! Your post made me think about how I am holding my own creativeness back. I did not realize how much it can really help you solve problems. Creativity is so beautiful in its own way. I personally believe that it is all in how you make it.
ReplyDeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteHello! Great Blog. I found the information that you provided very informing. From your blog I learned how important creativity is. It kind of encourages me to get more creative and allow myself not to hold back on some creative ideas that come to my mind. Creativity brings so many things to the table and creates new things for our life.
ReplyDeleteCreativity seems to be getting rarer as time passes. When introducing creative ways to innovate a streamlined process, what's important is finding out how the process can be efficient and fulfilling at the same time. When deciding between a quick or creative solution, it depends on a lot of factors, but the biggest factor will be time. If there is time to develop a creative solution, it should be explored if it can achieve better results overall for everyone. One field that may not need a creative touch is any factory that relies on automation to make parts or products. The key to those places are being as efficient as possible and using as little energy as possible. While there can be room for creativity, it depends a lot on if the current is inefficient compared to the competition.
ReplyDeleteI know in my career field creative problem solving is an everyday adventure. I am a merchandiser and with most projects we are missing hardware, directions, or everything and just need to find a way. Thinking out of the box is the best way to produce improvements in processes and constructive change. I think a lot of the time find a creative solution that is also the most efficient way is the best way to accomplish tasks. If you think to long on a creative idea you may be less productive due to the time spent trying to be creative.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I think creative problem solving is a very important life skill. While there are some situations where you need an easy and quick solution, sometimes I believe the best solutions are ones that were well thought out and had a good bit of time put into them.
ReplyDeleteKoraleigh, I love the topic of the discussion you choose. Creativity is in the eye of the beholder, but in a business sense, it's in the aspect of corporate success. Innovation is only deemed valuable if it saves the business money, generates money, or both. Let's also not discount that sometimes the seemingly "easy and quick" solution is better for the business than one that may have never been implemented. I think it is essential when coming up with a solution that we ask ourselves, "Why has this never been changed?" and "Is there a reason this 'solution' has never been implemented previously."
ReplyDeleteAs someone who wanted to go into a career that is very diverse and personality-based (communications), I plan to use creativity to distinguish myself and my work from the rest. While plenty of eyes can watch the same event, only mine can come up with the descriptions I have and convey my personality through my words. In communications, finding a creative way to do anything will add a sense of individuality to your work, making it very important to your career. The only time relying on creativity would be an inhibitor would be if you are on a time crunch or if you run out of ideas.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very well thought out and informative article. You made a lot of very interesting points and provided good information. I completely agree with your statements that creativity is a useful skill in any industry. Not every problem needs a creative solution, the ones that do can change an industry. With the rise of the internet being able to create new ideas is more important than ever.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who hopes to make a career out of creatives (art, design, content creation), creativity of course plays a huge role in that job. In my opinion, I believe finding a creative way to get a job done is important then finding the easy way. Of course it depends on the job, but finding a creative way can open the doors to other opportunities. Finding a creative way can show other's you are willing to take the extra time to find a work around and think outside the box.
ReplyDeleteCreativity is my main EVENT. I am a hairstylist so I am very creative. I make hairstyles, I love doing exotic colors and making my clients feel better about their-selves. Finding a creative way is better than a fast solution. I always take the slower creative way because its my craft. Nope the beauty industry are full of artist and creative minds that are free butterflies, and able to express their minds.
ReplyDeleteI really like your blog. It made me think about how i react and respond to certain situations. I have a bad habit of shutting down or getting quiet when I am in an uncomfortable situation. Your post gave me new ideas and ways that I could use the next time I have a situation I need to think through. I like how you mentioned the different ways thinking more creatively can help in prove ourselves. When we think outside the box we are forcing ourselves to be more innovate and productive.
